Jeff Malinowski

Jeff Malinowski is an emerging, self-taught artist, primarily focusing on drawing. He likes to find ways to blend traditional and modern art techniques in a style which blurs the lines between abstraction, realism and surrealism. Jeff lives and works in the Philadelphia area.

Artist Statement & C. V.

I combine and juxtapose realism and abstraction in ways that question what it means for an image to be “detailed” or “accurate” or “realistic” and explore the differences between those terms. I use elements of specific styles of realism, such as Trompe L’oeil or Photorealism, and present them alongside far less realistic elements, frequently contrasting highly detailed sections with broad, representational sections and exploring how abstract parts can combine to make a figurative, and often (sur)realistic whole. I tend to work in series, drawing the same subject several times in different styles and my favorite subject is the most familiar of subjects, the human face.
